֨Fishing Guide֨

Hi! Have 1000gil in your pocket? Want to try investing in fishing? Mina can teach you how to become a successful Fisherman~ ^^

There are certain things as a fisher you must understand before starting…

  1. Baits can be equipped to a maximum of 12 and each time something hooks upon it, the bait will be lost…
  2. Baits effectiveness varies upon different fishing locations…
  3. Lures are used like baits, but you don’t lose it when you hook onto something…
  4. Lures and baits will be lost if your line broke…
  5. Rods will break and become a broken rod which can be repaired/resell…
  6. There are 2 types of fishes, freshwater and saltwater…
  7. Different fishes respond to different types of bait…
  8. Rusty items, rings and other junk may be caught… They have a tendency to break your rod…
  9. If the message “Something caught the hook!” shows for more than about 5seconds, you will automatically lose the catch…
  10. If you click your mouse or press Enter while fishing, you will automatically get “You didn’t catch anything.”
  11. Make sure you have a suitable rod if your bait is catered to catch big fishes…
  12. Best time to catch fishes is around 22:00 – 06:00 (Vanadiel time)…
  13. Fishing Gears which add to your skill +1 helps a lot in your fishing…
  14. Moghancement: Fishing makes you catch more Rusty stuff rather than fishes…
  15. It takes about 4-5hours of fishing before you level one skill level…
  16. There is a chance of fishing a monster outside town area…
  17. No fish is impossible to catch… Matter of skill or luck…
  18. The higher your skills, the more chances you may get the fish, depend on the fish cap level…
  19. Rusty Caps worth about 2000gil, so don’t throw it away…
  20. Moon phases are very important for fishing…
  21. There is a chance of gaining skill points if something caught your hook…
  22. No skill points will be awarded if you catch nothing…
  23. No skill points will be awarded if you caught a fish that level you already capped…
  24. Occasionally, you may receive a message “You lost your catch due to the lack of skill.” This means a fish level capped much higher than you, caught your hook. You are likely to gain skill points from this…

^^ Now mina will get you started now… Fishing can be very frustrating… Sometimes you get nothing at all… But rest assured if you are determined… you will be fishing lots o fishes~ Mina wants you to follow the level categories as not to waste your time catching nothing >< Mina’s guide is for poor players who have not enough gil to start… If you have gil to throw, buy a Composite rod and fish through my guide ^^; There are many alternatives in gaining skill points depending on your level… The beginning is always tough… But once you know how things work, the rest is easy!

Sweat

If you catch something, sweat will appear above your head…

As not to break your rod, you can see from the sweat to tell whether what you are hooking is big or small…

If your character looks panicked, and have lots of big sweat… It is said that the fish/item hooked is big and have a chance that your rod will break…

Moon Phase

Moon phase will determine the chance of catching a fish… type [ /clock ] and you will the moon phase percentage…

The best time is 0% - 10% or 90% - 100% … At such timing, you’ll be getting a lot fishes on your hook! ^^

Level 0-5

Recommended rod:              Fastwater F. Rod

Recommended bait:             Little Worm

Target fish:                        Crayfish

Recommended Locations:     Bastok Market/Mines

                                        Port San’dOria

                                        North San’dOria

                                        Zeruhn Mines

                                        Windurst Woods/Water

Skill cap:                            7

You start off buying Fastwater Rod for about 800gil in the Auction House and some little worms from NPCs, Babubu in Windurst Port (Fishing Guild), Lusiane in South San’dOria and Gelzeiro in Bastok Mines…

Your rod has a tendency to break through rusty items… A stack of crayfish sells for about 800-1000gil ^^

Level 4-7

Recommended rod:              Fastwater F. Rod

Recommended bait:             Sabiki Rig

Target fish:                        Bastore Sardine

Recommended Locations:     Kazham

                                        Port Bastok

                                        Port Jeuno

                                        Port Windurst

                                        Mhuara

                                        Selbina

Skill cap:                            10

You can purchase a Sabiki rig from the Auction House for about 2000gil or a few hundred more on the Steamship at Mhuara/Selbina. Sabiki rig is a lure that will allow you to catch multiple fishes up to 3. But then of course, only certain fishes respond to this rig and are mostly saltwater fishes…

Level 5-10

Recommended rod:              Carbon Fishing Rod

Recommended bait:             Insect Ball

Target fish:                        Moat Carp

Recommended Locations:     Rabao

                                        Windurst Woods/Water

                                        Bastok Markets

                                        West Ronfaure (Knightswell)

Skill cap:                            11

Moat carp can be sold for good money as 4000gil per stack… As soon as you break through the first few stacks of Moat Carps, you would have enough money to buy a Carbon Fishing Rod. Mina believes that Carbon Fishing Rod is the most effective rod to catch Moat Carps though it will break on rusty items. Moat carps are used in the Quest for Lushuang where you have to turn in 10000 Moat Carps! Moat carp is the fish for the first promotion test to next fishing rank~

You have to go Windurst and pass the guild master a Moat carp when you are at least fishing lv8…

Level 7-12

Recommended rod:              Composite Fishing Rod

Recommended bait:             Fly lure

Target fish:                        Copper Frog

Recommended Locations:     Bastok Mines

                                        North Gustaberg

Skill cap:                            11

Around this level range, it’s quite hard to level up which Mina understands ><

If you can afford a composite fishing rod at Auction House, it’ll help in your fishing for the next few fishing ranks…

Fly lures do attract quite a few big things that will break your rod. Composite Fishing Rods can withstand such weight and many big fishes, so it won’t break…

Level 8-18

Recommended rod:              Composite Fishing Rod

Recommended bait:             Sabiki Rig

Target fish:                        Quus

Recommended Locations:     Kazham

                                        Port Bastok

                                        Port Jeuno

                                        Port Windurst

                                        Mhuara

                                        Selbina

Skill cap:                            19

If you noticed, almost everywhere you fish for Bastore Sardine, you can find Quus too! The answer to progressing towards the next fishing rank is QuusQuus can be easily caught with Sabiki Rig and helps a lot to increase your skill points! So far Port Windurst is a good place to fish for it… The price of Quus varies a lot as it is used in a popular repeatable quest in Bastok.

Level 14-23

Recommended rod:              Composite Fishing Rod

Recommended bait:             Insect Ball

Target fish:                        Tricolored Carp

Recommended Locations:     Port San’dOria

                                        North San’dOria

                                        Bastok Mines

                                        Zeruhn Mines

Skill cap:                            27

This carp can be a little hard to catch and sells for 100gil each to NPC. Mina was quite annoyed with this fish as the returns are not good T_T

Level 18-20

Novice Fishing

At this point of this it is time for the second test and you will need a Cheval Salmon… I wouldn’t recommend you to fish for it unless you have a composite rod. You can buy one at the fisherman guild and no problem; the guild master will still accept it…

Level 21-28

Recommended rod:              Composite Fishing Rod

Recommended bait:             Frog Lure

Target fish:                        Giant Catfish

Recommended Locations:     Port San’dOria

                                        Giddeus

Skill cap:                            31

Mina recommends you to do this fish to level up! This is the best bet around this level range! A frog lure can be bought in the Auction House for about 4-6k gil… Each Catfish sells about 200gil to NPC and it is rather easy to catch!

Level 27-35

Recommended rod:              Composite Fishing Rod

Recommended bait:             Sinking Minnow

Target fish:                        Ogre Eel / Gold Lobster /Zafmlug Bass

Recommended Locations:     South Gustaberg

                                        East Sarutabaruta (Sea)

Skill cap:                            35 / 46 / 48

By now you should already be quite familiar with the ropes of fishing… Buy one or two Sinking Minnows as the line may break! Occasionally you may get a Bastore Bream which sells for almost 2k to NPC, but that is a high level fish.

For this level range there are no better alternatives than these two locations I recommend.

Level 35-46

Recommended rod:              Composite Fishing Rod

Recommended bait:             Sabiki Rig

Target fish:                        Sandfish

Recommended Locations:     Rabao

Skill cap:                            50

*Smiles warmly* Just try using a Sabiki rig there for a few hours… Alternatively, you can use Insect Ball and you will get lots of Moat Carps too!

Level 37-50

Recommended rod:              Composite Fishing Rod

Recommended bait:             Crayfish Ball

Target fish:                        Shall Shell

Recommended Locations:     Valkurm Dunes

                                        Buburimu Peninsula

Skill cap:                            53

Although a rogue rig can be used to catch these effectively, but Mina lost quite a few Rogue Rigs on these @-@... Shall shell sells at about 10k per stack~

From this point, if you really want to continue and hit for high level fishing… You might want to consider getting Lushuang Fishing Rod~

After mina got the Lushang Rod, Mina leveled from 50 to 59 on ferry, using Slice of Bluetails

Then switched to Meatball for Silver Sharks until 73… Caught a few Legendary Fishes too~
